Autoimmune Disease

Our immune systems are naturally and elegantly designed to protect our bodies from invasion and infection. Through a complex symphony of immune cells, signaling molecules and antibodies, we become increasingly resilient to these external challenges to our health. However, through mechanisms not fully understood by modern science (many theories exist), autoimmune conditions develop when our immune systems misrecognize healthy tissues in our bodies, targeting them as foreign or non-self and mobilizing antibodies and immune cells to attack them.

While there is no cure to date, our doctors are trained to employ the most current research and treatments to promote best management of these conditions. These treatments may include dietary modification, testing, medicinal supplementation, and intravenous or injection therapies.

Some of the most common examples of autoimmune conditions include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease, systemic lupus erythromatosus, polymyositis, scleroderma, multiple sclerosis, and inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis).

Gastrointestinal Health

Our gastrointestinal system, or "GI tract", is one of the most important systems we have, and its health is fundamental to our overall well-being. It is the site of nutritional absorption from our food, and one of the most critical avenues for waste elimination. The GI tract houses the most immune tissue in our bodies (approximately 70-80%!), and the third most neurological tissue (the first being the brain, the second being our spinal column).

Some signs and symptoms that may be experienced when the GI tract is disrupted or unhealthy include gas, bloating, constipation or diarrhea, weight changes, abdominal pain or discomfort, 'heart burn', or changes in color, consistency and odor of stool.

At Paradigm Health, we recognize the importance of gastrointestinal health, as imbalances in proper GI function can impact any area of the body. Thus we strive to discover the root cause of these ailments, utilizing specific testing and treatments to help identify and remedy these imbalances. Our goal is the resulting elimination of symptoms, and improvements in both GI and systemic health.

Independent/Extended Laboratory Evaluation

At Paradigm Health Group, we offer extensive testing to assist in our evaluation of your health and well-being. These evaluations aid us is determining the cause of prevalent health issues, and provide appropriate direction for treatment.

While there are many different types of testing available to us, some examples may include evaluation of hormone balance, food allergy and sensitivity, gastrointestinal health and balance, immune status and function, nutrient levels, metabolic status or neurotransmitter function.

Meridian Stress Assessment / Electrodermal Screening

Our first priority is to assess and treat each client as an individual; this requires our doctors to understand the source of your symptom in order to treat and restore you to peak health. Occasionally this can be a challenge and using unique technology like Meridian Stress Assessment and Electrodermal screening can help us to identify the root cause of your symptoms/illness.

These screening tools are non-invasive and painless which makes them useful for patients of any age. They can be used to identify organ efficiency, food sensitivities, the body’s toxin burden and infections among others. Additionally it can be used to tailor treatment plans for client’s specific needs and personal tolerance. By identifying your body’s particular strengths and weaknesses we can create the most efficient road to recovery as well as working towards your maintenance and peak health.

Our Therapies

Every day, there are thousands of biochemical processes happening within our bodies that require vitamins and minerals for their proper function. These nutrients can be obtained from many sources, including the foods we eat and select nutritional supplements, such as multivitamins or a B-complex. However, we can only absorb a certain amount from these sources. Infusing these substances directly into the blood circulation allows us to provide a higher concentration of vitamins and minerals than would be possible by taking supplements. This allows for rapid delivery of these nutrients directly to our cells and tissues by bypassing the gastrointestinal tract.

Some other benefits include the ability to provide nutrients and medicines that would otherwise be difficult to due to their poor absorption, or any barriers to normal absorption, such as a digestive illness.

What other substances can we use?

In addition to vitamins and minerals, botanical extracts and antioxidant compounds can also be infused if required.

What conditions might benefit from IV therapies?

Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (such as Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis), Cancer, Infection, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Stress-induced Fatigue, Headache, Arthritis, Athletic Performance (Nutritional Optimization), Cardiovascular Disease, Asthma, Gout

Nutrients are required for everything our bodies do - structurally and functionally. Ordinarily, these are replenished through the foods we eat. However in the past few decades our foods have lessened with respect to their nutrient content. Coupled with increased demand for these nutrients (such as periods of stress or illness), or deficiency-inducing factors such as absorption or enzymatic defects, this results in detriments to our health.

Modern supplements contain a variety of compounds designed to address these deficiency states, providing our bodies with the nutrients we would otherwise be lacking. At Paradigm Health Group, we do our best to ensure the supplements we recommend are high quality, safe and effective.

At Paradigm Health Group, we employ several injection therapies to repair damaged or degenerative tissue. The purpose behind these therapies is to stimulate your body to accelerate its own healing processes through use of proliferative or biological agents.

Conditions Treated:

Musculoskeletal Pain, Joint Pain and Degeneration, Torn meniscus, Osteoarthritis, Back and Neck Pain, Herniated Discs, Sports Injuries, Tennis Elbow, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

After an injury, the body uses inflammation to repair the damage. Prolotherapy is a type of injection therapy that uses varying concentrations of dextrose, typically between 10% to 25%. This is used to stimulate a localized wound healing cascade (three phases - inflammation, regeneration and remodelling) – primarily ligaments, tendons and cartilage. The aim of this therapy is to strengthen and rebuild these structures to become stronger and tighter.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelets, which are contained in blood plasma, release numerous growth factors that are essential for the healing of injured tissue. Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP, is a type of regenerative injection therapy that uses concentrated platelets to accelerate this repair. These platelets are concentrated by centrifuging a sample of venous blood, thereby removing the red blood cells and a portion of plasma from the injection solution. The remaining PRP solution contains approximately five times as many platelets as whole blood, releasing growth factor concentrations up to 300 times greater.

Ozone injections are an excellent treatment option for infectious, circulatory or structural illnesses. This treatment is often combined with Prolotherapy (“Prolozone”) or Platelet Rich Plasma, primarily for the treatment of herniated or degenerative discs.

Neural Therapy

Neural therapy is the practice administering localized injections of an anesthetic substance, with the aim of restoring function of the autonomic nervous system to areas where damage or impedance to neurological signalling may have occurred. Surgical scars are a typical example; however any area experiencing interference may result in referred pain syndromes around the body.

In medicine, Ozone has numerous well-established properties. It is a powerful antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral. It has been recognized by both the FDA and EPA that ozone destroys 99.9992% of all pathogenic organisms. This makes it an excellent therapeutic tool for treatment of illnesses caused by infection.

In the body, ozone also has a number of other beneficial effects, including enhancing circulation, stimulating the immune system, stimulating oxygen metabolism and release of oxygen to the tissues from hemoglobin.

Ozone can be administered intravenously, by injection, or insufflated rectally. It can also be applied in a topical carrier solution (such as olive oil), or via bagging method (for use in treating ulcers, burns, or wide-spread infection).

Conditions Treated:

Infection (all types), Circulatory and Vascular Diseases, Diabetes, Cancer, Ulcers, Burns, Herniated Discs

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is naturally produced by our bodies, and functions as the the immune system's first line of defense again invading pathogens. Compounded for medical application at a concentration of 3%, hydrogen peroxide has many uses in the body, including destruction of many types of pathogenic organisms, oxygenation in the bloodstream and tissues, and reversal of arterial plaques. For our infusions, we include both magnesium and manganese sulfate for vascular protection.

Chelation Therapy

The link between chronic degenerative disease and  environmental exposure of toxic metals has been validated by medical literature, and continues to be a significant area of study in the field of environmental medicine. These metals have been implicated in their contribution towards cardiovascular disease, neurological and neurodegenerative conditions, immune dysregulation, hormone imbalances, digestive illness, and osteoporosis.

Some of these metals include mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, aluminium, and thallium.  While the body does have a natural mechanism to remove these metals, the speed at which this occurs is far outpaced by the quantity of exposure. Thus, using chelation agents such as EDTA, DMPS, and DMSA can help to eliminate these metals from our bodies rapidly and effectively.

Nutritional Counseling

Today, a proper diet is critical to your health and wellness. However, through the media, the books we read, and the people we converse with, we are exposed to a multitude of diets and dietary advice. Inherently this presents a challenge as to which foods, and how much of these foods, would be the most appropriate for us.

Our doctors are well-trained in applying the best knowledge available to formulate dietary plans most conducive to your health. Numerous considerations factor into our clinic recommendations, including micronutrient content and their role in metabolism, potential immune challenge (is your body allergic or sensitive to certain foods?), food quality (organic vs. non-organic, GMO vs. unmodified, etc.) and how certain foods and food groups can affect various ailments, or be used as a therapeutic tool in their treatment.
