BIOLOGICAL TERRAIN ANALYSIS (BTA)

All structured matter in the body is surrounded and supported by fluids. This fluid environment, or terrain, is to the cell as the soil, water and air are to plants. It is the nature of the terrain that can either support health or support disease. The BTA has been developed on an understanding of chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, and nutrition. This test provides information regarding the underlying causes of disease. Using a computerized device, the BTA can determine whether or not a patient's biochemistry will support vitality and wellness. It detects imbalances that standard laboratory tests miss and often identifies abnormal states in those patients who have "normal' laboratory results. The BTA is an important step in the assessment of current conditions as well as an important tool for prevention, thereby reducing the risk of future health problems.  The testing involves a 12 hour fast and taking samples of blood, saliva, and urine. These three fluids are analyzed on the basis of:

  • pH (acidity and alkalinity) - relates to many functions including absorption of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, proper digestion of food, the breakdown or repair of joints and tissues, etc.
  • rH2 (oxidation-reduction potential) - demonstrates the amount of free radical damage or oxidative stress - how much "rusting" and aging is occurring in the body; can tell us the physiological age of the body
  • R (resistivity) - relates to the amount of electrically conductive ions or minerals in solution, or the ability of a fluid to conduct an electrical current; it shows us the levels of minerals in the body that keep our bones and heart strong, buffer acidity, and help run our enzyme system that affects every tissue in our body.

Once the patient has undergone their assessment, Paradigm Health Group offers a consultation to create a comprehensive treatment program. The BTA is not used to diagnose pathology; rather it offers essential information pertaining to the current health status of the patient. The BTA results may be used to determine a course of treatment, track progress, or determine the necessity for additional (more specific) tests.  Patients who appear to have similar conditions may have differing biochemistries which require different methods of treatment. Based on the BTA, changes can be made at the cellular level that helps our bodies to naturally combat illness and disease.

BIOELECTRICAL IMPEDANCE ANALYSIS

BIA is a method of assessing your body composition - the measurement of body fat in relation to lean body mass. A normal balance of body fat is associated with good health and longevity. Excess fat in relation to lean body mass, can greatly increase your risks to many diseases. BIA fosters early detection of a these imbalances which allows for earlier intervention and prevention. BIA also measures fluid and body mass that can be a critical tool for your current state of health. This is especially helpful for decreasing water retention because we can see whether the excess water is inside or outside of the cell which leads to the proper course of treatment. In addition, the measurements give us indicators of cellular health and the ability of the "living" cells (such as those found in muscles, organs, blood and immune cells) to store energy.  With the BIA we can track your progress and provide motivation as you see that even small lifestyle changes can have a big impact on your health.

Gastro-Test
The Gastro Test is used to evaluate baseline and stimulated levels of hydrochloric acid production in the stomach. A capsule containing string is swallowed allowing the string to unravel as the capsule makes its way to the stomach. The string is left for a few minutes to absorb the digestive juices produced by the stomach and then retrieved to measure the pH.  A second capsule is swallowed after drinking a mild baking soda solution, the "challenge", and the pH is measured a second time to determine how well the stomach overcame the alkalinizing challenge.

Through this simple test we can identify how well your stomach is functioning at continuing the digestive process (started in the mouth) while also stimulating proper digestive secretions from the liver and pancreas.

Indican (Obermeyer) Test
Sometimes in the digestive tract there can arise imbalances with the organisms (bacteria & fungi) contained within it. Such an imbalance, called dysbiosis, can weaken digestive tissue, disrupt immune function and produce metabolic waste products toxic to the body.  The Indican test measures one such product from the putrefaction of the amino acid tryptophan to determine bowel toxicity

Oxidata Test
Free radicals are renegade molecules that can damage other molecules and, consequently, tissues in the body that accelerate aging. The Oxidata test is a urine test that measures the degree of free radical (oxidative) damage within the body.

Electro-Dermal Screening (EDS)
EDS serves as a simple, comprehensive and non-invasive means of evaluating tissue strength and toxic or environmental insults to the body.  Based upon the Chinese meridians (organ "pathways"), EDS devices measure the electrical conductance of the skin after it has been exposed to minute electrical frequencies.  By measuring changes in the conductivity of the skin, it is possible to evaluate the health of various tissues in the body as well as the reasons why a particular tissue may be functioning less than optimally.
